The 2025 Golden Globe winner for Best Screenplay, Conclave is one of the year's most important films. When it came out in theatres, I admit I wasn’t as interested but I watched it shortly after it was released on Amazon Prime, and I’m glad I did. It’s a suspenseful thriller about the few short days a conclave of Catholic cardinals meet to select a new Pope after the incumbent dies of a heart attack. As they investigate each candidate, they uncover all kinds of scandals and troubling concerns that reflect larger issues within the Catholic church. It is a controversial topic, but I think the film handles it with the care and integrity it deserves. There are spoilers, so stop reading now if you want to watch it first.
