I just did it again on my way to meet friends. I keep accidentally tapping on this new option that pairs you with only female or non-binary drivers and then wondering why so many of my rides end up being with women. To be clear, what I don’t like about them is based on stuff they’ve probably been taught: to not drive too fast and to be extra friendly/talkative. It’s not their fault, but those traits do not mesh well for me.
PS It just occurred to me that these women are probably being extra talkative and gentle with me because they think I’m someone who intentionally opted for that “female driving” touch. What a debacle.
PPS To be also clear: I think it’s wonderful that Lyft has this option.
I've had some great conversations with Uber drivers, but they've mostly been male.
in smaller cities i end up with male drivers, and they always ask me a ton of questions about my travel and work and such. i think they're trying to be friendly but i'd rather have silence. i don't want to tell you about my life.
