I think it’s weird that women are expected to smell like flowers and cedar at an indoor cycling class. Go ride your bike in nature if you don’t want to smell indoor nyc bodies!

A guy in my gym smelled so bad you could smell it throughout the very large space. I decided to take a casual approach and said to him "Hey buddy you kinda reek." then he answered in very poor English, not understanding what I said. I got more and more embarrassed, the longer I stood there and tried to explain it to him. Ultimately, he denied it, and I regretted my decision to approach him. However, I think telling the attendant instead would've made me feel slimy, which is probably worse.

Why and how did you get a new set of clothes comped? Need more on that part of the story … actually, a play by play post class at the front desk could be ideal. Please spill. (Is the tribeca soul cycle the one near Whole Foods? Also SC sucks - go to OT- everyone smells there and no one whines about it .. altho- probs you won’t get clothes comped either)

Oh goody! I love when someone actually wants to hear more about one of my silly stories. So what happened was that after the class, a really sweet person from the front desk (with all the other Soul Crewmembers busying themselves behind the front desk or averting their eyes from the retail racks so as not to further my humiliation) told me that the rider next to me had complained about my extreme body odor and that they wanted to give me this new top and bike shorts for me to wear instead of the old stuff I was wearing to help in case it was a laundry issue. I felt so bad for how embarrassed that crewmember was to tell me and did my best to talk loudly about it then and on subsequent visits so that no one would feel like they had insulted or embarrassed me. The clothes were too small.

PS The people that work behind the desk at Soulcycle NoHo are some of my favorite people ever.

I got so overcome with excitement about answering your question and using it to update my post and all, that I forgot to answer you on these: Yes, Tribeca Soulcycle is in the same building as Whole Foods. And what is OT?

I felt this and was like "me too, I have the funk too!".

Soul Cycle would hate me, I would have just blurtted out, "Sorry not sorry, I stink, I'm going through menopaus, part of that includes a new funk of body odor even with deoderant and perfect hygene, you can keep your workout gear"....

My hubby and I started noticing my funk a few months ago, and I couldn't figure out what the cause was. After doing some research and putting all the pieces together, I figured I was in peri-menopause. Talked to my doctor and she agreed I was showing all the symptoms. It was a relief to finally know the cause, but how did I deal with it, cause I didn't want tooffend anyone with my smell. The only thing I've found that works is prebiotic underarm toner. I thought it was a gimmick but thank the lord, something natural that works!

OK, first of all, you are the first person (except for the secondhand information I got from my friend that night at dinner about his wife) to validate this for me! Thank you, thank you thank you!

I also really love that tip about the prebiotic under arm toner. I've actually never even heard of that, but will look into it. For me the super funk only lasted for maybe a year (which was probably long for people next to me, but seemed OK to me) and then it just stopped. I thought at first that mine was from some vitamin supplement I was taking, but now I feel certain that we nailed the cause together. (I wasn't even sure it was the actual cause when I wrote this post. So again: Thank you!)

Wow I wish I was as evolved as you—I probably would have run out of there before the conversation even ended! Thankfully I just sweat it out on the peloton at home…I started getting the perimenopause stink last year and even my husband (who has never registered body odor coming from me) mentioned it. Now I have to immediately throw my clothes in the wash after a ride because putting them in the hamper or laundry closet subjects my family to it 😩

I love the image of you scurrying to the hamper so as not to "subject your family to" the odor. You're hilarious. Also, I can't say enough how great it is to get the validation for this. Even though it is after the fact for me now. It was a weird smell that was not even like my usual body odor. It was almost chemical or something very very odd. Is that the same for you? And just so you know – it will go away pretty soon Thanks for sharing with me here, sweat-sister!
