I want to join book club, even though I mostly only read non-fiction now, too (15 years as a high school English teacher ruined my taste for fiction for a while).

What’s our deadline?

Also, if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend Moon Unit Zappa’s memoir, “Earth to Moon.”

I have not read that so let's put it on our list! I'm so excited that we are actually going to do this. (And I would actually prefer a strictly non-fiction controversial reading club if enough of us are up for that.)@Corynne Steindler Cirilli

Oh poor Moon Unit - my husband LOVES Frank Zappa, but, as parents, well... Was this like Mommy Dearest or anything?

Not quite as severe as that, but not great at all. Frank was barely there physically, and her mom wasn’t there mentally much. Just read the book - I don’t want to give out too much.

Hard YES. I always kinda though Oprah was a lil harsh to him on her show that time. I love LOVED his book, "A Million Little Pieces" -- I don't even care! 🖤

I LOVED that book too and reread it at least once. I don't give a shit if some is exaggerated. Most every nonfiction book I read I find things in to question the veracity of - this is the same to me.

So happy you will do book club too!!!

I loved it, too, and his reason for embellishing, i.e, “I couldn’t get it published otherwise” made sense to me.

As for Oprah…*sigh*. I love Oprah. The public scrutiny she’s endured with such grace and class weighs more heavily (excuse the unintented pun) than her lapses of judgment over the years (the rises of “Dr” Phil and Dr Oz come to mind). She’s certainly not perfect, but she’s done way more good than harm and opened doors for countless women.

I’m in for the book club! Also in for writing about controversial topics and/or wicked amounts of oversharing.

I can never commit to a bookclub. I am way too chaotic with my reading material. 😅

you can join non-committally!

I am reading five books and listening to two audio books. 😅

You have me beat with the audio books. I can never do those. I want to go back and look at words again too much I think ?

I can only listen in the car. It can sometimes take me a while to finish a book.

It doesn't help when a good friend is a librarian and keeps recommending books to you. 😅

This is going to be a great exercise in discipline for me as well! I often read parts of books and then read other parts of other books and then go back to Finishthem all way later, sometimes even years later.
